Nonna Pia
The original (?) grandfluencer and ‘TikTok’s favorite Italian grandmother.’ According to her grandson: "Nonna Pia lived through World War II. During that time, she didn't have that much to eat. Now, she always makes sure there is plenty. Nonna has no portion control. Even though we can eat a lot, there are always leftovers; sometimes we have full trays that we give to friends and neighbors." | TikTok | Facebook | Insta
Pasta Grannies
A Vicky Bennison project. "It all started when I was doing some research on a book about Italian food when I noticed cooking skills were no longer being passed onto the younger generations. Everyone thinks their Nonna's cooking is the best. But what will Nonna be cooking in 20 years time? Italian women (and men) these days are far too busy to spend time in the kitchen. Of course pasta making isn't going to die out, but it increasingly is a commercial activity - for chefs, pasta shops and factories - rather an a domestic one. So I thought I'd celebrate these women and their skills by filming them.” | New York Times review

“What should I say? You want me to tell you how I make the sauce?”
In one of his most personal works, Martin Scorsese sits down with his parents, Catherine and Charles, in their New York apartment in 1974 for a free-flowing discussion that touches on family history, the immigrant experience, and the meaning of Italian American identity. | Criterion Films | Max
